LEND - Legislative Advocacy Workshop

Center:
Fiscal Year:
2020
Contact Information:
Project Description:
Each year, the LEND program organizes a two-day legislative advocacy workshop for LEND trainees and members of community-based organizations. The purpose of the workshop is to provide participants with knowledge and skills in effective advocacy with state legislatures and other policymaking bodies. The workshop includes current and former legislators, lobbyists and staff of legislative service agencies as faculty and/or guest lecturers. The workshop selects one topic each year that will come before the legislature in the session following the workshop (the legislature convenes three months after the workshop each year). Participants receive training in developing fact sheets and other materials, organizing coalitions to advocate for legislative proposals, and presenting testimony before legislative committees. The workshop ends with a mick legislative hearing on the topic selected for that year.
