ZIKA LEND Healthcare Professionals w/University of Southern California Children's Hospital of LA
Project Description:
The incidence of cases in American Samoa from January-July 2016 was 13.6 per
1,000 persons and there have been 92 confirmed/probable cases from 2016-2017. In collaboration with the CA-LEND Program, we plan to facilitate the training for health professionals, interdisciplinary consultation services, and interdisciplinary specialty care via telehealth to expand the capacity of health professionals and increase access to care for children with congenital ZIKV. We plan to collaborate on:
I. Training to provide interdisciplinary care: Tele-education
a. Joint CHLA Global Health and CA-LEND distance training for parents, caregivers and professionals;
b. Joint provision of continuing education (live and distance education); and
c. Ensuring all CA-LEND faculty and fellows receive training in neurodevelopmental and other disabilities and interdisciplinary care for children including, ZIKV.
II. Interdisciplinary consultation services: Teleconsultation
a. Bilateral technical assistance based on organizational and program needs, including Title V programs;
b. Reciprocal inclusion of CA-LEND and UCEDD faculty and fellows representatives in workshops, advisory boards, and planning committees; and
c. Participation in scenario-based learning, using case-based learning strategies to apply skills.
III. Interdisciplinary specialty care: Telehealth
a. Provision of information and referral to pediatric interdisciplinary specialty care through innovative mechanisms, including CHLA Center for Global International Telehealth Program, requesting information to improve access to neurodevelopmental services and to support ongoing developmental monitoring, intervention, and care.
