Utah Neurodiversity Workforce Program
Project Description:
The UNWP pathway aims to improve the higher education and employment trajectory for individuals with ASD through preparation and work-based learning (WBL) opportunities. The pathway provides a conduit from high school to higher education to STEM-related jobs. For example, the model engages high school students in preparation for the transition to post-secondary education and skill-based work opportunities. Awareness training for faculty and staff in higher education raises awareness and provides best-practice strategies to support students with ASD to successfully navigate college and university systems. The model includes WBL opportunities to prepare these students for employment. Employer and employee autism awareness trainings help prepare the work environment to recognize the unique contributions of these employees and how best to support individualized needs. The model prepares the student for the workplace and the work-place for the potential employee.
