Utah Community of Practice in Cultural and Linguistic Competence

Fiscal Year:

Contact Information:
Project Description:
The Utah CoP is committed to achieving the following objectives: 1. At least 5 new formal relationships with nonprofits and other advocacy groups outside of the sphere of the DD network who specifically serve culturally and linguistically diverse populations in Utah. Formal relationships will be defined by an MOU or contractual obligation. As noted earlier, the DD network has many informal relationships with organizations that specifically serve Utahs culturally and linguistically diverse populations, and the CoP will allow us to engage many of these organizations in deeper more meaningful ways as we work to meet the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities among these groups. 2. An increase of at least 10% in diverse individuals sitting on the advisory boards of the USU Center for Persons with Disabilities, Utah Developmental Disabilities Council, and Utah Disability Law Center. At present, there are very few individuals from culturally or linguistically diverse backgrounds that sit on the advisory boards of the DD network. The DLC has been the most successful at this, and will assist the UDDC and USU CPD in expanding the number of representatives from diverse backgrounds who are involved in the oversight of our organizations and activities. 3. At least 3 new collaborative grant/contract projects that specifically address the needs of individuals with DD and their families who belong to Utahsculturally and linguistically diverse populations. The CoP will strive to develop one project per year, with the goal of 3 total established projects at the end of the 5 year period of this opportunity.
