Project Description:
The purpose of the Department of Labor grant is to develop and implement a comprehensive competency-based career training and continuing education system to address critical training shortages in the direct service workforce, thereby incresing Alaska's capacity to recruit and retain direct service workers. Project objectives include: A. Recruit new and incumbent direct service workers into continuing education and degree programs related to developmental disability and aging services. B. Expand paraprofessional certificate and degree programs to meet developmental disability and geriatric industry needs for trained professionals and to support career ladder opportunities for direct service workers. C. Provide continuing education opportunities for direct service workers through a variety of formats, promoting "best practices". D. Establish a Clearinghouse and lending library of "best practices" training materials and training programs for use by service providers to train their own staff. E. Facilitate access to continuing education and academic training for new and incumbent direct service workers.
