Project Description:
Purpose: The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has developed professional learning modules for helping educators embed college and career competencies into course content. The modules include goal-setting, self-efficacy, self-regulation, assertiveness, conflict resolution, and self-awareness. In addition, DESE has developed an additional learning module that explores the role that feedback plays in the development of assessment capable learners in the classroom. DESE plans to develop and implement high-quality family modules designed to improve home-school supports for students that accompany these existing professional learning modules. The role of the University of Missouri Kansas City Institute for Human Development (UMKC-IHD) will be to develop high-quality, complimentary family modules using parent-friendly language and concepts in online and face-to-face learning formats that include practice profiles and fidelity models.
Goal 1: Use the existing College and Career Competencies modules to develop six online and face-to-face learning modules for families. The six professional learning modules with resources will be designed for individual at-home use and face-to-face trainings for parents that define, in parent friendly language the concepts of: goal setting, self-efficacy, self-regulation, assertiveness, conflict resolution, and self-awareness.
Activity 1.1: Development of six online learning modules for individual at-home use in parent friendly language the concepts of goal setting, self-efficacy, self-regulation, assertiveness, conflict resolution, and self-awareness. Modules will provide strategies for parents to assist with the development of these skills in their children as well as suggested opportunities for practice and provide linkages to other agencies, employers and opportunities to promote the practice of these skills.

Activity 1.2: Development of facilitator materials for the six modules to be delivered in a face-to-face learning format. Materials will include pre/post assessments, PowerPoint presentations, handouts, fidelity checklist, practice profiles, and other appropriate resources.
