Project Description:
The Ohio State University admits between 180-200 medical students per year. In the current curriculum, medical students learn about patients with developmental disabilities through a simulated patient encounter in their third year and through a fourth year developmental disabilities elective. We propose the following six activities to enhance and expand our current disability training opportunities. 1. Developmental Disability Lecture for First Year Students 2. Community Health Education Project 3. Video Module on patient transfer 4. Disability Documentary in Longitudinal Groups 5. Simulated Patient Encounter 6. 4th year Advanced Competency elective on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
