Children and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS)

Center:
Fiscal Year:
2019
Contact Information:
Project Description:
Children and adolescents with serious mental health issues are often at risk because of inadequate screening to identify problems before they reach crisis status. A recent court order in Massachusetts mandated that all children and adolescents receiving the state's health insurance program for low-income residents, MassHealth, receive yearly screening using a standardized screening tool, the Children and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS). New England INDEX, in collaboration with other UMass Medical School staff, has developed and maintains a Website which: *registers behavioral health care providers that serve MassHealth clients; and *allows them to schedule on-site training; or *allows them to take online training; and *serves as the site where all providers must take and pass a certification test. The Website is fully accessible and communicates with Websites developed and maintained by the Children's Behavioral Health Initiative of the Executive Office of Health and Human Services.
