Project Description:
Dr. Laugeson developing a new program for adults with ASD, PEERS in the Workplace. This program is being developed by the PEERS Clinic and aims at improving employment outcomes for young adults with ASD. The program is based on empirically validated social skills taught in the PEERS for Young Adults curriculum, one of the only evidence-based social skills interventions for adults with ASD, in combination with new material focused on skills needed to gain and maintain meaningful, competitive employment. In this feasibility study, 20 young adults and their caregivers (parents, family members, job coaches, life coaches, and peer mentors) will participate in 16 weekly 90-minute group-based sessions focusing on skills related to resume writing, completing job applications, interviewing skills, workplace conversational skills, peer entry and exiting strategies, and conflict resolution/management skills. Pre-and post-comparisons of social functioning and job acquisition/retention, along with participant and stakeholder feedback, will be assessed to determine feasibility. PEERS is currently recruiting for this project which will begin in the Fall of 2018.
