Rise School Consultation

Project Description:

JFK faculty provide consultation to classroom teachers and integrated physical therapy, within the classroom, on a one to one basis, and also in small and large group settings. Approximately 20-28 children with disabilities are served annually. LEND PT fellows spend between 2 and 6 hours weekly at the school working with each child with a disability, primarily in the development of gross motor skills. The PT fellows learn about typical classroom adaptations to facilitate motor development and also about orthotics and adaptive equipment that may be needed to support children's development. Monthly progress notes (including present status, accomplishments and next steps) are written for each child with a disability, and they are given to the parents. Other trainees may be interested in coming to observe at the Rise School to increase their knowledge of inclusive education settings for young children with disabilities.
