Project Description:
The Colorado Department of Human Services, in partnership with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, JFK Partners at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, and the Early Childhood Partnership of Adams County, was awarded Colorado Project LAUNCH, a cooperative agreement with SAMHSA. COPL has five core promotion and prevention strategies related to early childhood mental health: 1) screening and assessment in a range of child serving settings, 2) integration of behavioral health into primary care settings, 3) mental health consultation in early care and education, 4) enhanced home visiting through increased focus on social and emotional well-being, and 5) family strengthening and parent skills training. Process and outcomes measures will be used to assess continuity and change in five Project Launch objectives: 1) increase access to screening, assessment, and referral to appropriate services for young children and families, 2) expand use of culturally relevant, evidence-based prevention and wellness promotion practices in a range of child-serving settings, 3) increase integration of behavioral health into primary care settings, 4) improve coordination and collaboration across disciplines at the local, state and federal levels, and 5) increase workforce knowledge of childrens social and emotional development and skills to respond to behavioral health challenges of young children and families.
