Project

QI Project to Increase Screening for PD

Center:
Fiscal Year:
2019
Contact Information:
Project Description:
Currently, although screening for postpartum depression is recommended by the American Association of Pediatrics, we estimated that it is performed during less than 10% of well-child visits to resident clinics at CHLA. Quality improvement project was conducted to demonstrate that with physician education, the percentage of mothers screened for postpartum depression during a visit to their CHLA pediatrician (resident + supervising attending) will increase. Training on postpartum depression was provided to general pediatricians (attending and resident-level) that included how to appropriately counsel and refer mother who does have symptoms of depression, and what community resources are available. Outcomes measured were the change in rates of pediatricians documenting screening for postpartum depression pre- and post- intervention.
