Project Description:
The recommended amount of daily physical activity for youth is 60 minutes a day, most days of the week. Youth with disabilities are not achieving this target and are significantly less active and more obese than their non-disabled peers. The combination of the health risks associated with physical inactivity and obesity presents a serious health concern in this population. The goals of this project are to: Improve fitness levels of athletes, Improve balance, strength, and coordination, Improve mobility and focus, Teach adults and kids with developmental disabilities how to play tennis, Provide volunteer opportunities for students and adults in tennis community
Add tennis as a sport for Special Olympics in Northern Nevada, Take athletes to compete in SO Unified Tennis Tournament in Sacramento Summer 2019.
