UAA Center for Human Development (CHD) has previously worked with STEP for the past 5 years to teach Direct Service Workers (DSW) the core skills & competencies required to effectively work with people who experience disabilities, serving an average of 43 participants per year. This training prepares DSW for the Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) credential. Mining and Petroleum Training Services (MAPTS) with UAF, trains Alaskans for underground and surface mine employment in entry-level positions. It includes a camp, classroom, maintenance shops, mine training simulators, and heavy equipment all; used for student training. MAPTS has a three-year history operating the program and has the administrative, instructional, and program support needed for its continuation. MAPTS has industry support with partners in student recruitment and job placement after training. MAPTS has an 85% job placement rate for students after successful completion of its program.
