Project Description:
Needs: Parents of children with autism often do not have easy access to learn about evidence-based practices to work with their child. Goals/Objectives: The PACT project will provide training to parents/caregivers of children with autism, ages 3-22 on two topics: Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) with a focus on self-determined learning and Transition to Adulthood. A total of 460 parents/caregivers are targeted for this training as follows: (1) a total of 200 parents/caregivers will receive online only access to evidence-based ABA training videos, along with a combination of large group and small group web-based topical workshops led by project staff; (2) a total of 60 families will receive more intensive supports via on-line access to evidence-based ABA training videos and transition training modules, along with onsite workshops, web-based trainings, and individualized supports from qualified project staff; and (c) a total of 200 parents/caregivers will attend a 6-hour onsite workshop on the topic of Transition to Adulthood with a focus on improving post-secondary outcomes for individuals with ASD. Unusual Features: The project uses a combination of on-line/onsite AND online only to reach parents across the state of Texas. Expected benefits: Parents will gain skills and knowledge in Applied Behavior Analysis, Self-determination and transition to adulthood.
