South Carolina Assistive Technology High Impact Innovation Assistive Technology Grant
Project Description:
The goal of the Eye Gaze Communication Solutions project is to improve access to eye gaze devices focused on improving communication for individuals with paralysis, spinal cord injury, stroke, traumatic brain injury, ALS, and cerebral palsy. The project will focus on underserved, low income South Carolinians with these diagnoses. This will be accomplished by creating partnerships with agencies to identify appropriate individuals to receive the eye gaze devices. Another objective will be to train the individual with a disability to use the device through a demonstration by Dr. Carol Page, a speech language pathologist and Director of the SC Assistive Technology Program. Training will also be provided for caregivers and professional staff who provide care for the individual with the disability. Evaluations will be performed after each loan is completed.
