Developmental Monitoring and Response/ Early Identification and Intervention
Project Description:
Need: Developmental screening is an Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic, and Treatment (EPSDT) benefit. However, many healthcare providers are unaware of current and best practices for implementing developmental screenings and often lack training and validated screening tools. Additionally, families may be uninformed of the existence of and proper protocol for screenings.
Goals: improve access to local resources and services for children and their families and encourage providers to engage in the uptake of developmental screenings as integrated practice via well-child exams. The project will serve as the springboard for the Help Me Grow provider outreach strategy.
Objectives: review literature and conduct interviews to determine how best practices from prior efforts, particularly the First Connections project, could be replicated and scaled for
adoption by multiple providers. Work with provider practices
to further delve into barriers and opportunities for incorporating
developmental screening using validated tools as standard practice. Engage with the Help Me Grow Provider Outreach
Workgroup to ensure that the pilot aligns with the larger Help Me Grow effort. Work with L.A. Care to make recommendations on
the role of the health plan in supporting access to developmental screening and resources, including recommendations on
criteria for selecting provider groups to participate in phases 2 and 3 of the pilot, and what interventions should be piloted.
