Sibling Support Community Collaborative

Center:
Fiscal Year:
2018
Contact Information:
Project Description:
We identified through a literature review that siblings (across the lifespan) of people with developmental disabilities have their own unique needs and may benefit from the support of other siblings. We organized a community collaborative including, OHSU UCEDD, IDD, FACT Oregon, Providence Child Center United Cerebral Palsy of Oregon & Southwest Washington, Autism Society of Oregon , Oregon Center on Developmental Disabilities and Clark County Parent Coalition which decided we would like to start supporting this group by bringing Sibshops training, a well known sibling support model created by Don Meyer, Director of the Sibling Support Project, to the State of Oregon. During the two days of the training, facilitators will learn about sibs life long concerns, how to organize a local Sibshop and experience what a Sibshop is all about. The collaborative received a $1000 grant from the UCEDD and each agency donated funding as well to pay for Don Meyer to come and train new Sibshop facilitators and administrators, service providers and parents.
