Project Description:
The National Center on Secondary Education and Transition (NCSET) seeks to increase capacity of national, state, and local agencies and organizations to improve secondary education and transition results for youth with disabilities and their families. NCSET provides technical assistance and disseminates information on three areas of national significance for youth with disabilities and families: (1) Providing students with disabilities with improved access to and success in the secondary education curriculum; (2) Ensuring that students achieve positive postschool results, including postsecondary education, meaningful employment, independent living, and participation in all aspects of community life; (3) Supporting student and family participation in educational and postschool decision making and planning. NCSET's past accomplishments include: Conducting two National Leadership Summits involving interagency teams from 42 states and other entities including the Bureau of Indian Affairs, U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Pacific Rim and an interagency planning team of over 20 National Organizations and Federal Agencies; Providing Technical Assistance to all 50 states through a variety of strategies including Communities of Practice, Capacity Building Institutes, National teleconferences, and individual consultation. Currently, it produces and disseminates over 100 publications available for download through its NCSET Web site (a national technical assistance tool used by national and state level agencies, organizations, and individuals to obtain current information on a wide range of research-based practices and strategies); maintains a Youthhood Web site, an interactive curriculum-based tool designed to help youth plan for adult life (addressing youth directly, and also intended for use by teachers and other professionals in classrooms, community programs, and other settings where adults work with youth); and sends out E-News, a free electronic newsletter, twice monthly. E-News currently has over 4000 subscribers. Its usefulness is also demonstrated through widespread dissemination of its information through other organizations' online newsletters (Monday Morning in Washington, DC; AUCD Digest; and many others).
