Project Description:
The goal of the proposed 2-year project is to build sustainable partnerships between the University of Minnesota (UMN) in the US and Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU) in Armenia with a specific focus on improving inclusive education in Armenia. In Armenia, there is a real need for training, dissemination of information and an on-going collaboration with a university with a successful history of inclusive education to assist with updating their model of inclusive education. These efforts need to be conducted as a true collaboration between the two partnering universities to ensure that the practices of inclusive education that are utilized in the US are also applicable and feasible for the Armenian context. This proposed collaboration will consist of the following activities: conducting gap analysis of inclusive practices in ASPU education and special education coursework, learning about the current work of the ASPU Special Education Clinic, working together with YSPU faculty on site and remotely to revise and update their courses on inclusive education, introducing ASPU faculty to inclusive models and practices in MN, building an on-line community of inclusion (Inclusion Portal), collaboratively drafting an Inclusion Guide for Armenia, and documenting the history of inclusive education in Armenia via a documentary. Most of the project activities will take place electronically and while on trips to ASPU in Armenia.
