Waisman Center - Evaluation Consultation
Project Description:
Need:
Recently, rates of autism have been on the rise since at one in 68 cases. Being that autism has been seen as an epidemic, studies suggest that caregivers need to detect autism as early and infancy. One of the ways that caregivers can detect autism is through the sake of infant milestones.
Overall goals and objectives:
The Center for Leadership in Disability and the Waisman Center, which are both University Centers on Excellent in Disabilities, collaborated on the statistics related to the Learn the Signs, Act Early Project found at the Center for Disease Control.
Unusual features:
The Center for Leadership in Disability is just a few miles from the Center for Disease Control, which often provides statistical findings on autism to the nation. Being that the Waisman Center is another UCEDD in a different part of the US, the CLD can easily gather useful data and share that with the Waisman Center.
Expected benefits:
The collaboration between CLD and Waisman Center will not only provide valuable information on Learn the Signs Act Early but also provide valuable date to other state UCEDDs as well. Such valuable information can be used to help clinicians, caregivers and other personnel to better understand how to detect and treat autism spectrum disorders.
