Inclusive Spiritual Supports
Project Description:
Need:
In most cases, houses of worship fail to recognize individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities as valuable members of their communities. As such, are frequently unprepared to meet the unique needs of these individuals and families, or utilize their unique strengths.
Overall goals and objectives:
This objective of this project is to educate and train leaders, and other officials who work in houses of worship on the importance of inclusion for people with disabilities.
Unusual features:
The Inclusive Spiritual Supports project works very closely with all houses of worship to build inclusive and accepting spaces for people with disabilities and their families. Furthermore, the CLD provides a series of tool-kits for places of worship to build inclusion.
Expected benefits:
By participating, houses of worship will be better equipped to include people with disabilities during their service and other events while reducing segregated programs. Furthermore, religious leaders will grow in their understanding of the strengths and insignts individuals with disabilities can bring to their place of worship.
