DatatodescribetheoralhealthstatusoftheIllinoispopulationanditsaccesstocareare limited.Since2000,theDepartments DivisionofOral HealthhasbeendevelopingtheIllinois Oral HealthSurveillanceSystem(IOHSS) incollaborationwiththeAssociationofStateand TerritorialDentalDirectors,theUniversityofIllinoisatChicago,theU.S.CentersforDisease ControlandPrevention(CDC) andanoralhealthepidemiologist.Thegoalofthesurveillanceis tomonitorstatespecific,population‐basedoraldiseaseburdenandtrends,measurechangesin programcapacityandmonitorandreportcommunitywaterfluoridationquality.This informationisvitaltoassistorganizationsthroughoutthestatetoplan,toimplementandto evaluateappropriateinterventionsthatwilltrulyimprovetheoralhealthofIllinoisans.
