Project Description:
An array of services are provided by the ATU in the areas of: Activities of Daily Living, Adaptive Equipment, Augmentative Communication, Computer Access, Environmental Control, Home Modification, Seating and Wheeled Mobility, and Worksite Modification. These comprehesive evaluation services have been available to DHS-ORS eligible clients at no charge. Clients have been served in every service delivery category. Assistive Technology services are delivered through the ATU's 5000 square foot In-House Evaluation and Fabrication facility and throuh the Assistive Technology Mobile Units. The In-House facility has been equiped with over 600 pieces of evaluation and fabrication equipment, and offers extensive equipment modification capabilities. The evaluation equipment ranges from low-tech adaptations such as keyguards and mouthsticks to high-tech items such as seating simulators, a programmable-powered mobility base, and voice-input computer controls. Seven vehicles now compise the ATU's Mobile service delivery component, making it the largest mobile program in the country. Vehicle 1 is an adapted truck with shop machines permanently installed. This vehicle enables the ATU to offer on-site modifications involved in vocational application of Assistive Technology. Vehicles 2,4,6, and 8 are mini-vans, used when off-the-shelf technology is used in the Evaluation, and when several ATU team members are to participate in an Evaluation. Vehicles 3 and 5 are full size cargo vans, and have shop equipment installed on them as well.
