Evaluation of an Online Behavioral Parent Training Curriculum for Young Children with Disruptive Behavior
Project Description:
Our grant is named Evaluation of an Online Behavioral Parent Training Curriculum for Young Children with Disruptive Behavior and principal investigators include Dr. Amy Herschell and Dr. Cheryl McNeil, WVU Psychology Dept., and Dr. Susannah Poe, WVU CED/WVU Dept. of Pediatrics. We are initially funded for one year, but should continue for one additional year.
Our evaluation is designed to determine the effectiveness of Family Interaction Training
(FIT), a newly-developed, widely accessible online behavioral parent training program for
children with disruptive behavior. FIT is designed for providers of family/early childhood services who work with parents of young children. The role of our team is to evaluate family and provider outcomes after implementing FIT.
Findings from this study will inform large-scale implementation of efforts targeted at DBDs and ADHD through online training. Significant outcomes will provide evidence for using modified protocol of evidence-based treatments in a variety of environments to reach a greater number of children.
The FIT program and our evaluation is a collaboration that includes CDC: Centers for Disease Control and AUCD: Association of University Affiliated Centers for Disabilities
Written by the RFK Center, Montifiore Medical School, using a combination of evidence-based techniques that allow parents to master parenting skills from PCIT:Parent Child Interactive Therapy, IY: Incredible Years Parenting Program, Triple P: Positive Parenting Program, and New Forest Parenting Program and evaluated by WVUCED in collaboration in WV and PA
Strategies covered in the FIT program include:
Effective communication
Strengthening the parent-child relationship
Strategically providing attention to manage behavior
Positive attention and praise to encourage positive behavior
Active ignoring to discourage negative behavior
