Project Description:
Goals of the Scientific Conference:
1) Advance the understanding of the current scientific data on health status and health care for older adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, the related effects of long-term caregiving on the health of family caregivers, and the implication of these issues for promoting health with new technology.
2)Lay foundation for shaping the future research agenda with the involvement of multiple federal agencies concerned with aging and disability.
3)Define salient areas for medical concern and surveillance based on the extant literature and practice findings of physical conditions and diseases that appear to have particular incidence in middle age and aging adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
4)Ensure dissemination of findings through multiple modalities that target researchers, policy makers, providers, families and persons with disabilities.
