Multi Center Trial of Vitamin E in Aging Persons with Downs Syndrome
Project Description:
Evidence indicated that persons with Down syndrome over the age of 50 are more likely to get Alzheimer's disease (AD) than othe older people. Vitamin E has been shown to delay these functional changes in persons with AD in the general population. This study is being conducted to determine whether high dose vitamin E pills (1000 international units twice daily), taken every day for three years will stop or slow down some of the cognitive/functional changes that occur in older persons with Down syndrome with AD.
