Project Description:
The Debbie Schools Auditory-Oral Education Program provides early educational intervention services for children who are deaf or hard of hearing in an inclusive educational setting with their typically developing peers. Services include early and primary education classrooms located at the University of Miami Mailman Center for Child Developments Debbie Institute (Debbie School). The program provides an educational environment where children who are deaf or hard of hearing learn to communicate by listening and talking. The Auditory-Oral Education Program provides services for children who are deaf or hard of hearing five hours per day for five days per week for up to thirty-five (35) children from twelve months to eight years of age and includes five classrooms. Early identification and educational intervention improves outcomes for deaf or hard of hearing children and allows them to learn to communicate with their families, friends, and people in the wider world.
