Project Description:
The AAP is a home-based program that provides intensive, evidence-based intervention for 20-30 hours per week for young children with ASD between 18 months and 7 years. There are 100 children in active services at any point in time and approximately 50 on a waiting list. The goal is to include the parents/caregivers in the intervention so they will be able to continue it once the program ends, since it is limited to a maximum of 3 years or when the child turns 7 years of age. The program focuses on functional skills in areas of cognition, communication, self-care, socialization and appropriate behavior. Since it is a home-based program. the skills are acquired in the natural environment minimizing the requirement for generalization or transfer of learning.
