Project Description:
Arkansas Systemic, Therapeutic Assessment, Resources and treatment (START)is a systems-linkage approach to supports for individuals who have I/DD and behavioral health conditions. The philosophy of the START model is that services are most effective when everyone involved is allowed to participate actively in treatment planning and service decisions. Therefore, collaboration between service providers and service users are promoted. ArkSTART provides comprehensive systems and services evaluations, training and consultation, and technical support and clinical expertise. ArkSTART provides services to both children and adults with dual diagnosis statewide to enable them to be active participants in their communities.
ArkSTART is one of a number of states implementing the national START model as developed by the University of New Hampshire, IOD. Outcomes of START include reduced number of law enforcement involved incidents, Emergency Room visits, placements in psychiatric treatment facilities and other costly out of home placement as well as improved quality of life for the individuals served.
