Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Other Related Disabilities
Project Description:
The goal of the LEND program is to improve the health care of infants, children and youth with complex neurodevelopmental disabilities (ND), including autism by expanding interdisciplinary training opportunities for graduate students from the disciplines of Audiology, Developmental Pediatrics, Nursing, Public Health, School Psychology, Social Work, Special Education, and Speech Language Pathology(Long Term Trainees), and Dentistry, Human Development and Family Studies, Pharmacy and Physical Therapy, Psychology (Short Term and Medium Term Trainees). Community based trainees (including adult and youth with disabilities (PWD) and family members with PWD (families) and professionals will also be included in LEND training as Long Term Trainees (LTT), Medium Term Trainees(MTT) and Short Term Trainees(STT) The program will insure that trainees: receive an appropriate balance of academic, clinical, and community opportunities; are culturally competent and diverse; demonstrate high levels of clinical competence in evaluating, diagnosing, developing, and providing evidence-based interventions to individuals with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities; demonstrate an ability to use a family-centered approach; and assume leadership roles after their training.
