Project Description:
This project includes: Educating Children with Disabilities Course. CEDD faculty member Peter Mundy, Ph.D., offers this course through the UC Davis Department of Education. The goal of the course is to prepare general education teachers to deal with the diversity of children in a typical inclusive classroom, including best practices in working with children with DD. The course provides an introduction to exceptionalities, including intellectual disability, learning disabilities, ASD, ADHD and emotional disturbance. Topics include biological and cognitive foundations of exceptional learning needs, assessment and evidence based instructional strategies for different types of learning difficulties, and professional and ethical practice with exceptional needs children and families. Lectures by CEDD faculty to various classes at UC Davis and California State University Sacramento. Expected benefits: Trainees will increase their knowledge of DD and medical, legal, social and/or policy issues related to disabilities and, as a result, will provide higher quality services to people with DD.
