Project Description:
Information on available services to people with disabilities is a basic need prerequisite to the opportunity to exercise independence and choice. The Massachusetts Network of Information Providers for People with Disabilities (MNIP) is coordinated by New England INDEX at the Shriver Center. MNIP is a collaborative of over 100 non-profit disability-related information providers in Massachusetts who use databases developed and maintained by INDEX to provide information to their consumers. MNIP members use an electronic network to assist one another in answering questions and to locate the information they need in order to provide I&R. INDEX collects, maintains and disseminates the information both to members and to the public at www.disabilityinfo.org.
INDEX has an extensive collaborating network. Examples of collaboration include:
? Resource support to non-profit disability-related organizations
? Consultation and support to state agencies regarding development of official state agency one-stop information ?Virtual Gateway?
? Development and support to Developmental Disability Councils and state VR agencies in establishment of accessible/affordable housing registries (MA, NY, NV)
