Project Description:
Complete services for cochlear implant recipients include pre-implant assessment and counseling, surgical implantation (by a board certified otolaryngologist who specializes in cochlear implants)and post-implant mapping and counseling. Candidates include pediatric and adult hearing impaired individuals who receive little-to-no benefit from traditional hearing aids. WIHD hosts Westchester' Rockland, and Putnam's first/only Cochlear Implant Support group (held by/for implant recipients). Anticipated outcome for all recipients is to provide state-of-the-art implant services in order to improve the individuals' overall communication abilities.
