Project Description:
In 2014-15, 3Arts launched an unprecedented, customized in-town residency fellowship in partnership with UIC's Bodies of Work, a disability arts and culture organization supported by the Department of Disability and Human Development, for artists with disabilities. For the inaugural year, two past 3Arts awardees were invited to apply; following this pilot, the process was opened to artists with disabilities in the Chicago metropolitan area. The fellowship supports the creation of new work in residencies that increase the conversation around disability culture on- and off-campus. In addition to determining their own artistic goals, fellows may opt to teach master classes, take part in critiques, work in tandem with students and faculty, conduct research, and access UIC's tremendous resources. This project is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts to 3Arts. Bodies of Work is proud to partner with 3Arts and UIC's Department of Disability and Human Development to present these unprecedented fellowships in support of disability culture.
