Project Description:
There are unique changes in brain maturation of brain systems underlying motivation and learning during the transition to adulthood that incurs vulnerabilities for the emergence of psychopathology and peaks in risk- taking behavior that undermines survival. We propose to extend the investigations on the development of motivational systems of the parent grant, by probing the neurobiological mechanisms underlying changes in motivational processing during this period using innovative methods. Together, these measures will provide an unprecedented integrated characterization of normative development of the brain systems of motivation that can better clarify the specific developmental processes that may underlie abnormal brain maturation.
