Project Description:
ArkSTART is the state project to provide emergency intervention for individuals with developmental and behavioral health diagnoses who are experiencing difficulty manifested in behavioral outbursts. The program is designed to provide technical assistance to staff and families who support the individual to prevent them from losing their community placement as a result of difficult, dangerous or destructive behaviors. ArkSTART is modeled after the Center for START Services at the UCEDD in New Hampshire (the Institute on Disabilities). The goals are to provide technical assistance and training, to reduce the number of placements in psychiatric treatment facilities, and to enable the individuals served to lead more productive, inclusive lives in their communities. The project is operated statewide with regional START Coordinators housed in various locations.
