Project Description:
Randi Hagerman's research. The Fragile X Research and Treatment Center, under the leadership of Randi Hagerman, M.D., performs clinical evaluations and treatment of patients with fragile X and studies the association between molecular variations in the fragile X gene and the physical, behavioral and cognitive features of children and adults affected with fragile X syndrome or its premutation form. The Center studies the benefits and side effects of targeted treatments for fragile X syndrome (FXS) and related disorders, including autism.
Leonard Abbeduto's research. MIND Institute Director Leonard Abbeduto, PhD, and his team are conducting an examination of the development of language among individuals with fragile X syndrome. They are exploring the effects of behavioral, environmental, and biological factors on development of language, as well as how linguistic impairments affect adult outcomes, such as independence and participation in the community.
