Accessible Housing Options in Connecticut

Center:
Fiscal Year:
2016
Contact Information:
Project Description:
People with disabilities have limited access to affordable housing in Connecticut. Many consumers have little knowledge about available accessible housing options, including home modifications, funding and supports. Additionally, while there are many housing coalitions, task forces and policy studies on housing, the lack of affordable and accessible housing is still a major concern within the housing markets. The intent of this initiative is to develop a one-stop shopping resource for people with disabilities and their families and friends who are seeking available, affordable and accessible housing. This includes (1) development of a resource directory in hard copy and electronic formats; (2) creation of a statewide task force to examine current information on accessible housing; (3) creation and implementation of a training module containing a common core of information about housing for individuals with disabilities and their families, providers and those who control the housing market; (4)development of appropriate policy recommendations to improve the availability of accessible, affordable and available housing for people with disabilities and their families.
