Project Description:
1. Professional Development Develop specific training modules based on established competencies for those working with children with ASD (10 topics) Develop competency based exam for each model that is electronically based to measure increased knowledge and awareness Deliver training modules to Autism Specific Classroom personnel (including paraprofessionals in those classrooms) and present in August, 2012 and January, 2013 Deliver training modules to others (intensive support teachers, special education/general education teachers, ancillary staff, paraprofessionals- 1 training day in the Fall (repeated twice; once in September, once in November); 1 training day in spring (repeated twice, once in Feb, once in April) Each training day will present two modules/topics One day of principal training in Spring, 2013 Parent training in Fall, 2012 (1/2 day) This professional development plan is proposed for one year. The plan involves foundational training for autism specific classroom personnel as well as training for others within the district. Given the high incidence of ASD as well as the need to have training provided or teachers in a continuum of settings, it is felt that a plan that encompasses as many personnel as possible will be most beneficial. Autism specific classroom personnel will be presented with 10 training modules over 1.5 day). Participants will demonstrate their increased knowledge and skills by completing an on line examination which will provide a record of their module completion. Others may participate in optional training of four modules which will be repeated in twice in the fall and spring to insure maximum participation as well as adequate classroom coverage. These individuals will also complete an online examination to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in the presented modules. Participation as well as exam results will be presented to APS. Future professional development will build on knowledge gained. NOTE: 3/4/16 Combined APS and Rio Rancho School Consultations
