Project Description:
Housed in the Center for Leadership in Disability at Georgia State University, the Georgia Inclusive Post-secondary Education Consortium is a group of people dedicated to ensuring that every Georgia student has access to learning after high school, regardless of intellectual or developmental disability. Doctor Carol Britton Laws is a member of the Consortium. The consortium meets monthly to keep pace with some ambitious goals, including to find ways to offer inclusive post-secondary education to more young people with disabilities that are currently precluded from participating in college life. At the University of Georgia, a team of faculty in a collaboration between the J.W. Fanning Institute and the Institute on Human Development and Disability with the support of the Student Government Association at the University of Georgia are currently exploring the potential of inclusive post-secondary education. The University of Georgias Fanning Institute was awarded a grant to plan and explore inclusive post-secondary education programs for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This planning and exploration of inclusive post-secondary education programs has led to this event happening next. Additionally, in the next few months the Fanning Institute will be writing a final report to guide future program development efforts at UGA.
