Birth to Five Mental Health Core Training Initiative
Project Description:
Need: Many mental health professionals lack training in working with children aged birth to five years.
Overall goals and objectives: This contract with Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health aims to train mental health professionals to increase their core knowledge in working with children aged birth to five years and their families. This will increase the number of competently trained professionals to work with underserved, low income, infants and young children who have mental health needs.
Unusual features: focus on mental health needs of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Interdisciplinary training staff will also introduce community mental health professionals to the roles of multiple disciplines in mental health care.
Expected benefits: Increased competency of the mental health workforce; increase access to mental health services for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers and their families.
