Project Description:
Choose Health LA Kids (CHLAKids) is a public health initiative funded through First Five LA targeting obesity prevention in 0-5yo living in underserved areas of the county. This grant focuses on underserved residents in Service Planning Area 5. The 36 month project will begin by convening focus groups with parents, key stakeholders and then disseminating the CHLAKids intervention curriculum into the community. Initiative activities include conducting parent trainings with community partners (medical clinics, HeadStarts, Early Head Starts, Faith-Based groups, day-care centers, recreation centers, and others), provide tours on how to find healthy foods, read labels and make informed food choices in local grocers, partner with local restaurants to disseminate campaign information and affect portion sizes offered, provide cooking demonstrations, and outreach through local community events such as Farmer's Market and health fairs. Specific geographic areas include Venice, Palms, MarVista, Del Rey and we added Santa Monica.
