Project Description:
Need:In 2009, the National Council on Disability published a report entitled The Current State of Health Care for People with Disabilities. They found that
● People with disabilities experience significant health disparities and barriers to health care, as compared with people who do not have disabilities.
● The absence of professional training on disability competency issues for health care practitioners is one of the most significant barriers preventing people with disabilities from receiving appropriate and effective health care.
Goals and Objectives:The Health Care Providers Guide to Caring for People with Disabilities series is designed to provide professional training on disability competency issues to improve access and quality of health care for people with disabilities.
Unusual Features: The 8 part series is available in 3 versions: as curriculum modules for pre-service training, webinars available for CME, CNE, and Social Work CEs, and live training events for clinic and hospital staff.
Expected Benefits: Health Care Professional in our state will be more aware of competencies needed to provide appropriate healthcare to people with disabilities.
