Problem:Texas has the fastest growing child population in the US and is one of the most diverese state in the country but usually ranks 45-50th in most indicators of child health and well-being. Statistics for services to individuals with autism spectrum/developmental disorders (ASD/DDs)are similarly bleak. Goals and Objectives: Goal 1: Develop leadership that is tasked with guiding the improvement of the States system of care for children and youth with ASD/DDs. Objective 1: Develop consensus and buy-in among ASD/DD stakeholders Objective 2: Demonstrate capacity to develop effective coalitions/partnerships between key Stakeholders Objective 3: Demonstrate a planning process that leads to the development of a State Plan Goal 2: Perform needs assessment to identify specific needs of children w/ ASD/DDs, family satisfaction w/ role as partners w/ providers and family satisfaction w/ transition from pedi to adult health care. Objective 1: Perform preparatory work for Needs Assessment Objective 2: Use Focus Groups to document needs Objective 3: Conduct web-based surveys to identify disparities and specific needs a. State health systems; b. satisfaction w/ role as partners; c. satisfaction with the transition process Goal 3: Reduce barriers to screening, referral, diagnosis, and intervention services. Objective 1: Increase: Proportion of children w AS/DDs who are screened, evaluated, & enrolled in intervention services; Routine dev surveillance & screening activities for ASD/DDs; Number of children identified by 24mo, children who receive first eval by 36mo and children enrolled in intervention by 48mo Objective 2: Improve access to culturally competent family-centered medical homes Improve familys satisfaction as partners Objective 3: Improve familys satisfaction with transition from the pediatric to adult health care Goal 4: Develop a comprehensive evaluation and program monitoring strategy Objective 1: Successfully attain each activity, etc within the Workplan timeframe
