Project Description:
The state of Rhode Island would like to refine its comprehensive assessment system. The National Center on Educational Outcomes is undertaking several activities to help Rhode Island learn more about its current assessment system and what the issues may be. Students, including students with disabilities, in Rhode Island take many assessments that are used for a variety of purposes (e.g., summative assessments used for accountability, National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), Response to Intervention (RTI), classroom-based assessments, English Language Proficiency (ELP) assessments, assessments used for teacher evaluation purposes, etc.). There is concern that students spend a large amount of time taking tests and other assessments. It is a very complex issue, and the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) wants to expand its understanding of what a high-quality comprehensive assessment system looks like.
