Oral Health Care Training for Caregivers
Project Description:
The Oral Health Care Training for Caregivers was developed to train caregivers, in a home or group home settings, provide effective oral care to individuals with developmental disabilities. The University of Miami in partnership with the Florida Disabilities Council will hold statewide trainings to teach caregivers how to provide quality daily oral hygiene. These trainings, both face-to-face and webinars, will be conducted in both English and Spanish by a board-certified dentist using the curriculum and materials, developed by the Council. The goals are to prevent dental problems that can lead to inadequate nutrition, behavioral problems, systemic infections and many other complications, and to have stakeholders incorporate these trainings into their existing trainings for providers. These trainings will take place in the four geographic areas of Florida. The project is funded at $=66,000 by the DD Council for the period of September 30, 2014 to October 31,2015.
