Project Description:
Abstract: Shriver Center UCE proposal to ADD In response to CFDA #93.632, The Shriver Center UCE, a Center of Excellence at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, will maintain the broad array of activities currently under way and use this foundation to undertake new training, service and research initiatives that will continue to promote the independence, productivity, inclusion and self determination of children and adults with developmental disability. The Center?s thirty plus years as a successful university center for excellence in developmental disabilities enable us to draw on variety of data, expert opinion, and survey research to formulate our goals for the next five years. Proposed Shriver Center UCE goals are: 1. To provide training in a variety of ways to improve the capacity of families, service providers, clinicians and members of the public to enhance the independence, integration, and productivity of people with developmental disabilities. 2. To provide services to persons with developmental disabilities and their families that enable those people to be active, contributing members of their communities. 3. To conduct research that will help inform the future of developmental disability services, policy and practice. 4. To insure that persons with developmental disabilities, their families and policy makers and practitioners have access to current information about the Center?s projects. We have developed objectives under each of these goals that target specific activities, populations, issues of concern, and areas of emphasis of interest to the field at the local and national levels. Our staff has built affiliations with relevant organizations at the local, state, and national level so that our work will have a broad impact in the developmental disability community, and much of the work over the next five years is to be done in collaboration with these affiliates.
