Project Description:
The University of Massachusetts Medical School-Eunice Kennedy Shriver Center in Charlestown, MA, in collaboration with the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) and the Help Me Grow Massachusetts Initiative through the Race to the Top-Early Learning Challenge Grant (RTT-ELCG) to support a training project wherein we will organize and develop a 60-minute training webinar for Massachusetts pediatric providers on developmental screening for all young children and referral to specialists for further evaluation and intervention of young children at risk for developmental delays and disorders. We will also provide Early Education and Care resources and services available to parents and families in Massachusetts. Numerous studies have documented that the early diagnosis of these disorders is essential to ensure that children receive early and intensive intervention services, which has a positive impact on developmental progress and long-term outcomes (AAP, 2006; Bailey et al., 2005; Anderson et al., 2003; Shonkoff & Phillips, 2000; Guralnick, 1997).
