Project Description:
Housing Arkansas is a broad coalition of stakeholders interested in safe, accessible, affordable housing. Affordable housing is a need for many segments of the state, including individuals with disabilities. Arkansas established a Housing Trust Fund in 2009, but had not directed any funding to the program until 2013. Housing Arkansas is seeking $10-15 million annually from the state budget for the fund.
Housing Arkansas has contracted with the UCEDD to gather input about needs related to affordable housing from stakeholders throughout the state. This was accomplished through a "listening tour", which conducted meetings in five communities around the state. A second contract calls for the UCEDD to conduct message training with grass roots advocates to prepare them to contact their policymakers about the need for affordable housing and to ask that the legislature include the Housing Trust Fund in the state budget.
